The Wizard Wolves limped onto the San Diego music scene in the summer of 2008 with almost no practice and a journey-men drummer. Fueled by late night Mexican food and black coffee, the then three-piece band, Derry VanNortwick, Scott Sports and Jim Hathaway, set out to realize their outrageous dreams of rock excess stated playing local bars around town. Their sound then could be described as raw...or crappy depending on who you asked. One thing was for sure; they knew how to have a good time.
It wasn't until Derry (singer/guitarist) met Jackson Sandland (Singer/Guitarist) that the true vision of the band came to fruition. After losing their original drummer to the California Criminal Justice System, Jackson suggested bringing in a school chum from UCSD. Salvador Luna (drums) brought a whole new dimension to the band, including a few electronic drums; the digital nightmare was now complete. Wizard Wolves began experimenting with electronic sounds, blending them in to their edgy version of Indie rock. Layered guitars, distorted bass, buzzing keyboards, and hard rock drumming rounded off with melodic vocals are the tools the guys use to achieve there sound. They are currently in the studio working on their debut record entitled North and South, it is fair to say the Wizard Wolves are just beginning to realize their full potential.
